Booking a cake with us starts with a free tasting session and complimentary consultation, during which we run through potential designs.
When looking for quotes for wedding cakes it’s important to provide a clear brief so that you can get consistent quotes to easily compare. Consider:
- Is your cake going to be a cutting cake (small pieces for everyone) or will it be your dessert?
- How many people will it feed?
- What is the overall theme of your wedding?
- Where will your wedding reception be held? And what time of year?
- What is the colour of the bride's dress?
- What is the colour scheme for the flower arrangements on the tables?
- Can we help you with the favours?
- Might cookies be needed?
Please do bring all these thoughts with you to the complimentary consultation – it will mean that we can get to the more important bits of cake design and tasting far quicker.
Cakes Sussex will also work with you to design your own wedding cake, creating a bespoke masterpiece to suit your theme and ensure that you will have the perfect cake on your special day.
Booking your wedding cake
If you’re happy to work with Cakes Sussex, we will take 50% deposit of the total price of your cake to secure your booking and the remainder will be to be paid in full one month before the wedding. (see Terms and Conditions below)
We recommend that you book your wedding cake at least six months in advance of your wedding day. This is not just to ensure your booking is secure but to allow enough time for the sugar works to be created (especially during busy periods) and accommodate any design tweaks.
Most importantly, it means that you have the breathing space to consider your theme and focus on other elements of the wedding day whilst we take care of your centrepiece. Some couples only consider the theme on the day of our wedding cake consultation. Others have a fixed theme in mind which is changed when looking at wedding cake designs.
Many clients also book their wedding cakes one or even two years in advance – usually at the time they book their venue.
Ultimately, we’re happy to work with you as early as you’re able to think about your cake. The longer the time-frame, the calmer the outcome.

Terms and Conditions
Full terms and conditions for Cakes Sussex are detailed below. By paying your deposit, it will be deemed that the terms and conditions are understood and accepted as applying to your order.
All prices are non-negotiable and priced according to your exact design and the sizes of your cakes. Following your consultation, your quote will be valid for up to 1 month. Paying your deposit will secure this price and the slot in the diary.
A non-refundable 50% deposit of the cake is required in order to secure the commission of your cake and chosen date and a non-refundable £500 deposit for your catering is required in order to secure your function and chosen date. If your deposit is not paid within 1 month of quoting you, we reserve the right to cancel any previous arrangements. The final payment has to be made one full month prior to your wedding or celebration.
Payment can be made by bank transfer, cheque or card payment. If you would like to pay by bank transfer, the name of the business is Cakes Sussex and the bank is METRO BANK Sort Code: 23-05-80 Account Number: 30272382. Can you please email us with confirmation of your bank transfer to email@example.com in order to prompt acknowledgement of your payment.
If full payment is not received in full and cleared in our account before cake collection/delivery then the order will not be released.
If cancellation of an order takes place, we reserve the right to retain your non-refundable 50% deposit. If cancellation takes place 2 weeks before the event then we reserve the right to retain 100% of the full payment.
If you wish to change the date of your order, we will try our best to accommodate. However, if the date is not suitable to ourselves we will have to treat it as a cancellation.
In the case of very unusual circumstances beyond our control such as ill health or accident, we reserve the right to cancel the order. In this case, you will receive a full refund for your cake.
Each cake is bespoke and individually made by hand and we will try our best to follow your wishes. However, there might be some slight alterations to the design to suit your style of cake.
We also reserve the right to change the design at any point of circumstances beyond our control if we feel it might compromise the quality of the finished cake due to hot weather.
If it is a very hot day and you have requested your wedding cake to be fully covered in chocolate, we cannot accept responsibility for any melting of the chocolate and would advise you to change the design slightly.
If you are having fresh flowers on your cake, please check with us or your florist that they are ok to use and prepared appropriately as some of the flowers are poisonous and should not be used. We cannot be held responsible for your florist's arrangements should they be damaged. If fresh flowers are being used on your wedding cake, we will try to deliver your cake as late as possible to make sure they are still fresh for your wedding.
Please make sure that non-edible items such as dowels, ribbons and flower picks are removed by the caterers or guests before eating the cake.
Once the cake has left our possession, we cannot be held responsible for any damages due to the heat or accidents by guests. However, if there is damage and you want us to come and repair it, we will do our best to accommodate but it will costed accordingly.
If the stands or cake knife are damaged we will keep your £150 deposit. Please make sure that the stands and knife are carefully wrapped in transport and returned within 7 days or there will be a fee of £10 per day for late returns as the stands are needed in the busy wedding season.
SPECIAL DIETARY REQUIREMENTS
If any of your guests have special dietary requirements such gluten and wheat free, diabetic... please let us know so that we can bake the cakes appropriately.
